Our Materials: The Science Behind the Jewelry

I’m intentional about the materials I use, because quality matters—not just in how jewelry looks, but in how it wears over time.

316L stainless steel is a high-grade metal commonly used in medical and marine applications because of its strength and resistance to corrosion. For jewelry, this means it is extremely durable, highly resistant to rust and tarnish, and hypoallergenic for sensitive skin. Unlike lower-quality metals, 316L does not easily react with water, sweat, or everyday exposure, making it ideal for jewelry meant to be worn daily.

PVD, or Physical Vapor Deposition, is a modern plating process that bonds a layer of real 18k gold to stainless steel at a molecular level. This creates a finish that is far more durable than traditional electroplating and resistant to fading, chipping, and tarnishing. Because of this process, Sunflower Soul jewelry maintains its color and integrity far longer than standard gold-plated pieces, without the high cost of solid gold.
